Utställning i Atriumrummet på VIDA
4 juli - 8 augusti, 2010 PORTABLE MYTHOLOGIES
“As an Earthling I had to believe whatever clock said” (1)
The exhibition of Carla Garlaschi’s oil paintings in her latest project
PORTABLE MYTHOLOGIES for VIDA MUSEUM Atriumrummet
has been part of a process along 2009 and 2010, having as a starting point
the production of characters/deities assigned to fulfil demands related to contemporary elements and situations.
When talking about production process, these characters/deities have been
projected by writing a mythology around them as drawing descriptions of their functional connection.
In the same way, the objects that surround these always-centred-figures, as their corporeity, are the outcome of
an image research for modelling this pictorial proposal from optical elements, thinking in that hypnotical view from
the observer, which countless times achieved by Byzantine religious icons.
When talking about the research of images, is in this precise point were
PORTABLE MYTHOLOGIES takes that inevitable step into the mass media images
since down loading photos from internet and manipulating them after that.
In another hand, Art History and Contemporary Art references were included and, why not, some Super Flat (2).
Later on, the third part of the images were found in the street and in a refrigerator for subsequently all of them
been organized on a bidimensional surface, in the bittersweet of the old sweat’s old fashion nostalgia
of the oil painting which at the other side turned the tragicomic, that knot of a flesh-and-candy-balloon inflated
with hysteria and phrases from Soap Operas.
At the same time, the technique as the ways of representing, shows to the viewer a wide spectra of the painting
rhetoric surplus that in times recall a carnal acidity in this pictorial materia-the oil-that is the medium of
PORTABLE MYTHOLOGIES characters/deities.
